Event - Skanska Utilities Leadership Team Away Days – October 2019

Delegates – 9 UK

Background

Skanska’s UK operation is one of the country’s top construction and development companies. It is an inclusive and responsible business, drawing on its Scandinavian heritage, it is green, innovative and progressive with a mission for all Skanska projects to have a near-zero impact on the environment. Skanska’s leadership team meet twice a year for an away day of around two to three nights as an opportunity to reconnect, have fun and work through strategic challenges.

Challenge

As a business with a clearly stated mission around sustainability, it is important that the venue and surrounding activities used for the twice-yearly away days are well aligned with this. The team also require a venue that can provide exclusive use and offer a high class and exclusive feel which helps develop the strong relationships within the team.

Solution

After a successful away day in St Davids (Tyddewi) in 2018 the team were keen to return to the area which is the UKs smallest city, sitting in an area of exceptional beauty and is known for its sustainable ethos. The group were pleased to have exclusive use of 5 star Penrhiw Prioiry Hotel which is situated adjacent to the Cathedral city of St Davids and within the renowned Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. A Green Key certified hotel, Penrhiw offered the group their own country house experience, with gardens, wildflower meadow and spaces for relaxation and mindfulness throughout the building.

Working with TYF who are a St Davids based company and a founding BCorp member delivering coaching and facilitation for organisations with a mission to be a force for good, the team at Penrhiw Prioiry Hotel worked with Skanska to develop a programme to meet their objectives to recharge and regroup after a challenging period for the company. The event took place over four days and the group undertook a range of adventure activities including coasteering and exploring the Pembrokeshire coastal path. The team at Penrhiw arranged for them to enjoy the hospitality of a number of local restaurants including the two AA Blas Restaurant at Penrhiw’s sister hotel Twr y Felin.
