The Meet In Wales team closed 2024 in style with two industry awards, voted for by meeting and event professionals, and recognising its work in promoting Wales to the global business events community.
In September the team were the proud recipients of a Silver Award in the Best Positive Impact/Event Legacy category at the Meetings & Incentive Travel (M&IT) awards and in November received a bronze accolade for Destination Team of the Year at the miaList (Meetings Industry Association). 2024 marked the first year that Meet In Wales entered such awards and signals a significant step forward in helping to raise its profile both domestically and globally.
By working alongside other Welsh Government divisions and in partnership with the tourism industry, to expand the business events sector in the nation, the team help to generate economic, environmental, cultural and health benefits that enrich the lives of both its visitors and local communities to grow business events for the good of Wales.
Through initiatives such as the Conference Ambassador Wales Llysgennad Cymru programme it works with the key Universities in Wales aligned to the sectoral strengths of the nation with the aim of attracting key Association meetings into Wales. It also supports the business events industry in Wales to enhance the attendee experience and provides a digital platform for buyers and suppliers to connect via our dedicated website and social media channels.
Business events cross most sectors and use tourism infrastructure to support the delegate journey. Using Wales’ strengths to position the destination positively helps attract national and international event planners to choose Wales for their various meetings, events and exhibitions.
Meet In Wales’ recent work has drawn on Welsh Government legislation in The Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act (WBFGA), to create a new narrative from the destination around legacy and sustainability.
