The gene therapy conference
Dr Angela Osborne, MD eXmoor Pharma:
"The AMC has become the industry body for advanced therapies; it’s a really new industry and there’s nothing else quite like it in the whole of Europe. We hold two conferences a year for around 100 people, this one was focused on gene therapies.
"We like to move around and not be London-centric, it was an obvious choice to return to Cardiff (Caerdydd) for October 2017 as it had been so easy the first time around. This time I was put in touch with the Hub who said yes immediately and sorted everything out; there is a lot to organize when running an event so not having to worry about the venue made it straightforward and easy. The Hub made a lot of sense as a venue, the cabaret seating suited us and put sponsors close to delegate. It’s been a very effective and easy venue. Cardiff is relatively straightforward for everybody to get to from everywhere, people have flown, driven or taken the train"

The Life Sciences Hub
Cari-Anne Quinn, Interim CEO, Life Sciences Hub:
"For meetings we have some great cities, hotels and infrastructure, we host one of the largest Life Sciences conferences annually, BioWales, based in Cardiff Bay, which attracts 800 delegates from around the world. It’s a real success for us, it’s grown year on year and demonstrates how easy it is to bring international delegates to the region.”
Academically speaking
Professor Karen Holford, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Cardiff University.
"As academics, we hold meetings with people from all over the world. It is lovely, from the coastlines to the mountains to the beautiful cities, to the beaches in Swansea. Academic visitors love the castle, the parks and are amazed Cardiff is a capital, has so much to offer culturally and yet is so close to London and the airports. It’s about accessibility – and having a great time while they are here."
When people come to Wales they sayWow! I didn’t know that this was here, I didn’t know that Wales was so beautiful.”
Professor Peter W Halligan PhD DSc FBPsS FPSI FMedSci FRSB, CEO The Learned Society of Wales:
"I’ve held international meetings here, making use of the great facilities in Cardiff and the other cities, bringing nearly 600 researchers per day to a three day event to do with brain injury and rehabilitation. Many had come long distances and were impressed with the facilities and capacities that Wales has as a small country to host it.”
